Join us for our second Forest-to-Table Wild Dinner. Guests will enjoy dishes prepared with a mixture of wild-foraged and locally sourced organic ingredients that are grown and harvested with care. We'll start with an appetizer and homemade herbal cocktails, and follow that with a multi-course meal at our community table. While we offer cocktails before dinner, the meal does not include wine or beer after, so we encourage our guests to bring their favorite bottle of wine or beer or something else to share with the group. All proceeds will go to support 5-Gyres, a local non-profit whose mission is to eliminate plastic pollution from the oceans. In this day-long outdoor experience, we'll be working with plants as food and medicine. The morning will open with a powerful plant spirit meditation as we familiarize ourselves with the local ecology and the plants we'll be working with. Afterwards, we'll take a gentle hike through the lush forests of the Los Angeles National Forest, learning about edible and medicinal plants and mushrooms, ethical harvesting and ancient ethnobotanical uses. We'll also forage a few ingredients to add to our lunch. In the afternoon, we'll wildcraft a wellness tea blend that we will enjoy as part of a ritualistic tea ceremony. Our time together will end with forest bathing and snacking on treats made from wild-foraged ingredients. The suggested donation for this workshop is $100, and includes a light lunch. Chocolate has been a treasured source of food and pleasure since before 1900 BC. Cocoa seeds were fermented, roasted, and ground to make a delicious beverage that Aztecs believed was the gift from Quetalcoatl, the God of wisdom. The seeds were so valuable that they served as a form of currency. It was also used as a powerful aphrodisiac, and to give strength and vigor.
Dark chocolate is a regular part of my diet, and being a wild child and forager, I like to infuse my chocolate with forest medicine--turkey tail mushrooms, elder flowers, rose hips, lavender, and other locally available plants and seeds. Want to learn how to make your own medicinal chocolate? Join me! Participants will learn the medicinal properties of the plants we use, different techniques for making chocolate, and will enjoy samples of the chocolates we make.
